We are proud to present this iconic Rolex Submariner non-date for sale in fine unpolished condition.
Launched in 1959 and manufactured until 1979, the 5512 is widely regarded as the first Submariner to emulate the appearance and feel of its modern-day counterparts. Several factors contribute to this distinction, notably its increased size from the preceding 38mm to the iconic 40mm – a dimension maintained by the Submariner for the subsequent six decades. Additionally, the 5512 stands out as the inaugural Submariner to feature crown guards, a defining characteristic that significantly enhanced the collection`s reputation for versatility and wearability. Initially equipped with the non-chronometer rated in-house Calibre 1530, the 5512 underwent a significant evolution in 1962 when its movement was upgraded to the chronometer-rated 1560, later succeeded by the 1570. This transition was prompted by the simultaneous release of the 5513 in 1962, produced alongside the 5512 as its non-chronometer rated counterpart.
Coming set in the classic 40mm stainless steel Oyster case with pinhole lugs, and is fitted with the classic black bi-rotational (pre-bezel ratchet) bezel insert with contrasting silver divers scale. It has a clean matte black maxi service dial (changed by Rolex themselves, unique as this watch is not a chronometer certified movement) with ‘Serif’ text and ‘feet first’ dial printing. The hour markers and hands have developed an even creamy patina to them, with the details protected by protected by a domed acrylic plexi-glass. Ensuring the 20atm (200m/660ft) water resistance is a screw-down, which is protected by the rarely seen pointed crown guards. Powering this Submariner is the automatic calibre 1530 (non-chronometer) movement, with the watch completed by a classic stainless steel bracelet with folding Oyster clasp.
Originally produced in 1959 (dated by serial number), and in fine unpolished condition. This Submariner comes with a green Rolex service pouch, our authenticity card and a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.
The 5512 often regarded as the blueprint for the modern day submariner and is an absolute must for any serious Rolex enthusiasts.
