Tudor
Oysterdate Chronograph Stainless Steel 94200 This is a pre-owned Tudor Oysterdate chronograph men's 94200 watch. 40mm case size in stainless steel, black dial on a black nato bracelet, powered by an automatic movement. This Tudor is in excellent condition complete with xupes presentation box. Circa 1980's. Offered here is a stunning example of the Tudor “Big Block” Chronograph with “Exotic Dial” reference 94200 manufactured circa 1980. This example has the correct Exotic dial for its 932---- serial number range for a Tudor Monte-Carlo 94200 Big Block with an exotic black-orange dial, black acrylic bezel along with the automatic Valjoux 7750 movement. These Tudor Exotic dial Chronographs are very sought after in Tudor and vintage collecting. The history of Tudor dates to 1926, when the house of “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, a Swiss watchmaker, registered the trademark “The Tudor” in Geneva, for Hans Wilsdorf (founder of Rolex Watch Co.) The Tudor brand was transferred to Hans Wilsdorf in October 1936, leading to the formation of “Montres Tudor S.A” 10 years later, just after the Second World War. In the years leading up to the development of the brand, Hans Wilsdorf had long considered the idea of manufacturing a moderately priced watch that would still attain the technical, aesthetic and functional characteristics of a Rolex (many of which, share identical features to their Rolex counterparts). Introduced in 1976, the reference 94200 was the first watch with an automatic movement from the Rolex group. This reference marks a very significant step in the history of Tudor and Rolex manufactory. A thicker and higher case was developed to accommodate the automatic movement and the rotor. Hence the nickname "Big Block". Due to its colourful and striking dial configuration, this model is also referred to as the Exotic dial or Monte Carlo. The Tudor 94200 was the first reference with the additional 12-hour totalizer positioned at 6 o'clock. The chronograph hand is orange, as are the minute numerals on the dial. The fixed acrylic bezel shows a tachymeter register scale. As usual for Tudor during this period, this Chronograph is equipped with some Rolex parts. The screw-down Rolex Triplock crown bears the typical signature. The caseback is signed "Original Oyster Case By Rolex Geneva". The chronograph function is controlled by screw-down pushers, to the automatic movement Valjoux 7750. The overall condition of this vintage Tudor Chronograph is Excellent. The case has been lightly polished in the past, but retains strong equal lugs, crown guards along with the brushed finish to the top edges and chamfers being beautifully defined, the bezel has no dings or scratches and compliments the general appearance of this Chronograph along with its original acrylic insert. The dial has retained its stunning appearance, with the Tritium hour plot markers and hands showing consistent patina enhancing the overall appearance of this vintage piece. The correct profile Plexi glass is free of any detrimental scratches or marks. The watch comes on a vintage style orange and black NATO strap, with Stainless Steel fastening buckle and hoops. This vintage Big Block Chronograph is accompanied with the Xupes Presentation boxes.
