Editors’ Picks of the Week: Tudor, Breitling, and Sinn

This week’s Editors’ Picks features an awesome selection of timepieces: from the trendiest Tudor out there and a beautiful Breitling remake to a German classic by Sinn.

Great Watches Under $5,000

Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue

The recent releases from Rolex, Tudor’s sister company, have overshadowed the introduction of the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue. A little while ago, Tudor came out with a captivating blue interpretation of the Fifty-Eight. The new watch takes the original’s looks and size and combines them with a blue bezel and dial. Needless to say, it was an instant hit. Thanks to its beautiful aesthetics and stunning blue tone, the Tudor Fifty-Eight Navy Blue flew off the shelves and took over many watch social media accounts. Until Rolex’s new releases arrived, that is. That being said, Tudor never tries to compete with Rolex, nor do they have to. Hopefully, the Fifty-Eight Navy Blue is the first of many new variations of the standard Fifty-Eight, which takes its inspiration from an early Tudor diver from – you guessed it – 1958. The Navy Blue is not a remake in the truest sense of the word, but it is an excellent timepiece, nevertheless.

Enthusiast’s Corner: Rare and Exceptional Timepieces

Breitling Superocean Heritage 42

Breitlings star has been on the rise for a few years now – not that it was ever truly fading. However, the company has made some amazing changes since its new CEO, Georges Kern, took over. They are focusing on their heritage more than ever before, and that is a good sign. A brand that knows and respects its past always has a clearer vision of its future. Many vintage-inspired pieces have come out under the new management, but some have gotten more love than others. Take the Breitling Superocean Heritage 42, for example. It is a low-key watch that is simple, elegant, and stunning in real life. Let’s look at the details: It has a 42-mm steel case, a stunning blue dial and bezel (also available in black or two-tone), a date at 6 o’clock, and a chronometer-certified movement. The Breitling Superocean Heritage 42 is available on a Milanese bracelet or rubber strap. In my opinion, it has enough of the vintage version’s features to be considered a heritage model, and yet its design is such that it does not feel outdated at all. The Breitling Superocean is a successful nod to its iconic predecessor.

Iconic Timepieces: Great Value for Money

Sinn 103 St

The 103 St is a watch that needs no introduction. If you are familiar with the German watch brand Sinn, then you have heard of the 103 St. This model may very well be the company’s defining chronograph/tool watch – and that’s saying something since Sinn has so many amazing timepieces in their line-up. They are known for creating instrument watches suited for professional use by fire departments, search and rescue services, and other similar fields. Sinn also has a few collections dedicated to Frankfurt’s financial district. These timepieces, unlike the instrument watches, are classy and elegant. They often make use of precious metals and fine finishing. The Sinn 103 St falls somewhere between a tool watch and a dress watch. It is casual yet elegant, and its 41-mm case is the perfect size for most wearers. The large black bezel and the push-pieces add to the sporty look. However, the overall design and feel of the Sinn 103 St are not too “out there.” It’s simply a great everyday timepiece with a trusted automatic movement from a beloved German watch brand.
